“She read it on her own, and now she quotes it back at me. First time advice from our house actually stuck.”

Will my teen actually read it, or just roll their eyes?

The chapters are short, packed with real stories from teens, cartoons and quick exercises at the end of each one. Teens who liked it say the same thing: it didn't feel like a lecture. Hand it over as one habit a week and it reads in small pieces.

Is it too young for a 15 or 16-year-old?

The layout is light so it reads fast, but the tools are the real thing. These are the same 7 habits from Stephen R. Covey's adult bestseller, rewritten around friends, school, dating, parents and goals. The personal mission statement exercise is the part readers remember years later.

It first came out in 1998. Is it still relevant?

This is the updated edition with a new introduction. It adds social media demands, cyberbullying and tech habits, so the advice fits the phone in their pocket.

Is it a religious book?

No. It's secular and is used in public middle and high schools. Homeschool families use it as a life-skills unit for grades 6–12.

Is this a therapy or mental health book?

No. It's a life-skills guide for everyday teen life: goals, friendships, school and peer pressure. If your teen is dealing with anxiety or depression, talk to their doctor or a counselor.

Who wrote it?

Sean Covey, son of Stephen R. Covey, who wrote The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Sean took his father's framework and rebuilt it around the problems teens face.

"She Stopped Rolling Her Eyes By Chapter Two"

I'd been saying the same things to my 14-year-old for a year. She read the Personal Bank Account chapter on her own, and now she quotes it back at me. First time advice from our house actually stuck.

"The Graduation Gift He Didn't Shove In A Drawer"

I bought it for my grandson's eighth-grade graduation. Two weeks later he texted me a photo of his mission statement taped above his desk. He starts high school next month and he's the calmest one in the house.

"One Habit A Week Over Saturday Breakfast"

My son is 15 and shuts down at anything that sounds like a lecture. The cartoons and short stories got him through chapter one, and the exercises gave us something to talk about that wasn't his grades.
